Common misconceptions about 5-MeO-DMT

Click here for an overview of 5-MeO-DMT.

The only eternal truth is being itself. Accordingly this text offers merely suggestions and its explanations should not be understood in a dogmatic sense. If you found other ways of managing the topic – that’s fine. Just don’t be dogmatic about it too. However, if you are in need for orientation regarding the topic, this text might be of service.

Toad secretion is superior to synthetic 5-MeO-DMT”

Imagine an alien race that experiences the most high by smoking our erythrocytes. They come every night and tap our blood. It doesn’t hurt us much, but would we be okay with it? We would ask them: “Why are you doing this, you are technically very advanced, so you can produce the erythrocytes in the laboratory. Why don’t you just leave us alone?” And the alien race would reply something like ‘Because the universe intended it this way’ or maybe if they are honest ‘Because we have been culturally conditioned to believe that you are our saviors.’

Nobody would smoke the secretion of the bufo alvarius toad if there wouldn’t be 5-MeO-DMT in it. Just because there is a minor amount of other tryptamines in it, it does not mean there is more sacredness to toad secretion than to synthetic 5-MeO-DMT. If there is an objective difference in the effect, it is only due to the other ingredients. You could also throw minor amounts of other synthetic tryptamines into the mix with synthetic 5-MeO-DMT.

To reveal the love of god consciousness nothing more is needed than synthetic 5-MeO-DMT. How can a ceremony be called divine if another beings body got unnecessarily exploited for it? Many people don’t experience a difference between toad secretion and synthetic 5-MeO-DMT which shows that the other tryptamines don’t make that much of a difference. People that proclaim an experience of a significant difference between toad secretion and synthetic 5-MeO-DMT presumably talk about the self-fulfilling prophecy of their own expectations.

For the desired effect – the revelation of the eternal light of the self – 5-MeO-DMT is exclusively responsible. The unheated toad secretion is poisonous, so there is no need to romanticize and idealize it. The toad uses it as a tool for defense which unfortunately fails against humans.

A facilitator needs external tools”

Setting is crucial factor like it is with every psychedelic. It should support a feeling of safety, relaxation, well-being and openness. Nature and meditative music are a good combination. Besides that, 5-MeO-DMT does not need external gadgets to unfold its therapeutic effects. Of course a facilitator is free to choose whatever gadget for whatever reason as long as he informs the participant beforehand. But if a facilitator is rather concerned with applying various tools than simply guarding the space for the participant, he appears to act like a self-absorbed kid that is playing with his toys.

Much intervention marks a skilled facilitator”

The substance is the medicine and just because a human is privileged to apply it to another human it does not make him or her a special healer. A facilitator that remembers a participant to maintain a symmetrical open pose – like the yoga pose shavasana – and otherwise exerts a silent loving presence has found a balanced way to behave in a session with 5-MeO-DMT. The more a facilitator intervenes the more likely he imprints his individual energy into the openness of the psychedelic space. This interference hinders the participants sensation of self-induced wholeness and empowerment of self-healing as their energy and the energy of the facilitator get intertwined. In most cases physical contact should happen as little as possible so that the participant can go through his energetic transformation without being bound to another being.

Some facilitators are able to support the release of energetic blockages of the participant by bodywork. In this sense not every intervention must by always be wrong. However, if someone is stuck with his foot in a hole you support him to get out, but besides that you let him walk free. Currently there are many videos on YouTube with facilitators expressing unconscious needs and egoic mechanisms onto the session and the participant.

Full doses of 5-MeO-DMT without external intervention should be enough to come unstuck as long as the participant surrenders. In contrast to too much intervention a mark of a skilled facilitator is to make sure the participant is well informed and prepared before the session, so that the participant is as ready as possible to let go after the ingestion of the substance.

I can smoke myself into enlightenment”

The thought that something has to be achieved to ‘get enlightened’ is something that hinders an embodiment of the realization of the ontological nature of consciousness. If there is one major lesson to take from 5-MeO-DMT, it is that there is nothing to achieve, but a mental energy construct to dissolve or at least to let go of or disidentify or relax. 5-MeO-DMT does not magically make the Jungian shadow disappear – but it can support introspection and its integration.

It is prudent to exhume and expose the structures and mechanisms of the ego-mind regularly on a sober ground. It can be a grueling process to the ego at times. Also it might be advisable not to skip a practice of sadhana you would have done if you hadn’t ingested 5-MeO-DMT. Stay humble. Be receptive for grace. Relax. Don’t bypass feelings. Don’t believe or engage in the habit of thought activity. Don’t try obsessively not to be a human. Have fun. Tune into stillness and self-love. Don’t take it too serious, it’s all love. Act benevolent from the heart. Be authentic. Surrender. Practice Self-Inquiery.

The frequency of the intake of 5-MeO-DMT does not correlate with permanent dissolution of self-created suffering. The more often you rely on a substance, the less often you allow transformation to happen endogenously. If you rely only on psychedelics, the chance is great that you train the ego like a muscle that grows stronger after its impairment. Make sure you are not just searching for mystical entertainment. Modest and honest deconstruction and surrender of mechanisms of the ego-mind and release of energy blockages in the light of the presence of awareness is key. If one already drifts into this direction, an application of 5-MeO-DMT might blow some wind under the wings. You are knocking at the door from inside, as Rumi put it.

An appropriate way to talk about a full release is the wording my experience

If experiencer and content of experience are dissolved, who can relate to this as my experience? Nisargadatta Maharaj said: ‘Liberation is never of the person, it is always from the person.’ Notice how the ego-mind tries to explain a full release afterwards as a concept and wants to claim it as something it has achieved. Drop this false reclamation. That which is revealed has never not been here.

The only effect 5-MeO-DMT evokes is a nondual release”

Minutes after a full release, the ego slowly clicks into place. In this period it is advisable not to reflexively identify with the incoming contracting energy patterns, but to stay open as long as it is possible. Out of this openness consciousness can reject patterns that are no longer of service. This is also possible without a full release, but it is more integral after it, because then you can love the shit out of the so-called pain-body. The energetic rejection of such portions of the pain-body can take quite wild forms like puking or screaming. Everybody is more or less conditioned to behave in a certain way in front of other humans. Therefor the presence of other people can cause this procedure to be suppressed. Nevertheless, it is not advisable to take 5-Meo-DMT alone if you are not sure what you are doing. In terms of impact it is the most potent substance humanity knows of.

If you wish to work with 5-MeO-DMT, I recommend to read this book beforehand.
